You've seen him around - talking to shop owners and advocating for local businesses, setting up and breaking down for street events, and (shhhh...) helping make the holidays special as Oneonta's Kris Kringle! Here's your chance to learn some more about the man behind the campaign, personally and professionally

Friend, Neighbor, Artist, Councilman...

Mark Drnek has been an Oneonta resident for 38 years. You may have seen him wear many hats. Just a few of Mark's jobs have included:

  • Illustrator of children’s educational materials
  • The morning news reporter for WZOZ
  • Coordinator of the graphics and media department at SUNY, Director of Creative Services at The Daily Star
  • The publisher of Central New York-focused magazines at Marksman Studios
  • Coordinator for the Downtown Improvement Taskforce
  • The founding chairman (and the rebuilder) of First Night Oneonta
  • Community Liaison for the Oneonta Job Corps Academy
  • Manager of Career Transitions Services, Outreach and Admissions and Work-based Learning of the Job Corps
  • Owner and Creative Director for SHP - Sweet Home Productions
  • Host of a nearly 25-year long, syndicated radio program heard weekly in cities across the country (from Anchorage to Asheville)
  • Council Member for the Eighth Ward (The Mighty Eighth) in the City of Oneonta

Mark's got plans - and you're a part of them. Some of his goals include:

  • Transforming city government to be more supportive, transparent, and inclusive
  • Enhancing quality of life through support of the arts, entertainment, and outdoor activities
  • Adding a thousand new, employed residents
  • Lowering taxes by identifying new revenue and adding new taxpayers and businesses
  • Assisting businesses throughout the City with low interest loans, grants and partnerships to expand their employee teams
  • Fostering public/private partnerships in re-imagining Downtown
  • Addressing homelessness and addiction
  • Enhancing public safety in our business district by reintroducing walking patrols
  • Encouraging and supporting entrepreneurs
  • Creating an expanded, more equitable, and accessible housing market
  • Pursuing a “green” agenda for construction, transportation, and energy
  • Engaging all members of the community in conversation and collaboration as we make Oneonta a better home for everyone.
